what type of soldering tool would be best to repair a small silicon chip peice with out burning the green part?
I have a sega genesis and the peice that connects to the AV power adaptor came off the chip and I need to repair it.
A cheap pencil soldering Iron from Radio Shack or any hardware store. The green is called solder mask and is on a circuit board. It is not a Silicon Chip. Use a tip that is slightly narrower than the "pad" also called a "land". It would help if I had a picture to see exactly what type of component or connection you are talking about.
I do not recommend those cool heat type.
