give my some ways where i can remove hardened aluminium oxide?
my furnace has hardened aluminum stuck on the heating elements and the base of the furnace where the crucible stands. can you give me some ways whereby i can remove these hardened aluminum? there are no holes at the bottom to leak away the aluminum even if we heated the furnace up. any ideaS?
If the solidified aluminum is only a small amount, and the elements and the lining are alkali resistant, it can be dissolved by an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. 20% solution at 60 to 70 deg C dissolves aluminum fast.
However, lot of hydrogen with fine droplets of highly irritant alkali will be evolved. Care should be taken to provide good local ventilation.
