how much amplifier watts do i need for my home speakers?
i am not good in sound systems, i have 3 pairs of in wall speakers each peak 80 watts 8 ohm, they are all connected to a single wire which i plugged in to a shelf system i couldn't turn the sound loud cause the system would crash i was then told that i need a amplifier now i bought a 100 watt amplifier (Sony model STR-DE197), when i turn the sound high the amplifier crashes, how much watt amp do i need, please help thanks
first, rewire the speakers and do it correctly this time.
you cannot run three pairs in to "single wire". If you paralled these 8 ohm speakers, they are now about 2.5 ohms and NO AMP will like 2.5 ohms with shutting down or just burning it self down.
Go to www.partsexpress.com and buy a home network system. Feed the amp into the network selector and then you will have your speaker selection control done correctly.
