Improvements In LCD Technology Over The Years
Improvements in LCD technology over the years has been steady and, lately, even spectacular. Liquid crystal display screens are popping up everywhere in greater proportions than ever before. These modern ways of displaying information have come a great distance, to the point where very tiny LCD screens can be found in very common consumer electronics or in the most modern automobiles and aircraft. It would seem that the CRT tube and heavyweight TVs are going the way of the dinosaur.
For example, imagine a few of the really popular liquid crystal display TVs out on the market nowadays. Some are so thin that it's hard to conceive of how they're able to put up a picture on their display screens. Actually, improvements in the way the display screen is lit are actually the reason for why their pictures look so sharp. This is because LED backlight technologies have begun to push fluorescent backlighting out of the way, improving the quality and sharpness of the display put out by the TV.
These light emitting diodes run along the edges of a typical LCD TVs display screen, hidden behind what's called a 'bezel, ' helping to brighten and sharpen the display in very useful ways. This is a classic example of how innovation and technology is used to improve a common consumer good like a modern LCD TV to the point where it is stunningly slim in its appearance.
This actually isn't the only innovation that has begun to benefit display screens of all sizes, by the way. Currently, some really small custom LCD screens have been produced that are being used in a variety of ways, including for data display modules such as can be found in an aircraft or even more expensive automobiles. They cost less than 100 bucks and can really add not only good looks but also are a definite improvement over analog gauges.
Considering that they also use far less energy, on average, than older digital or analog gauges, it's no wonder that custom liquid crystal display screens have made their way into aircraft cockpits or even personal automobiles and the like. This isn't to mention how useful they've become in medical equipment applications as well as all manner of measuring tasks.
A close relative to a liquid crystal display customized screen is the graphic LCD module. It can hook up quite easily to anything with a USB 2.0 or serial port connection and is very easily programmed to display any kind of data or information that's needed. It also costs around $100, meaning it's fairly affordable and able to be used to impart a sense of high-tech and high functionality to a great many different pieces of equipment.
Improvement is basically a desire of most humans and that desire seems to transfer over to the ways in which people have been taking relatively common liquid crystal display screens and turning them into some seriously good looking and high-tech gear. Certainly, the last several decades have shown that old-style TVs have nothing in common with new style LCD TVs. The work that's gone into improving just that consumer good is particularly impressive, it must be said.
