Can anyone recommend an exact replacement for the old Wavetek 75 Arbitrary Function Generator?
Is there a new product out there that someone is using that they are happy with (either a Agilent or Tektronix device???)
Thanks!!
Presume you're looking for a device which creates a custom wave-form which is then "played back"
You could probably make a simple (cheep?) one simply by sending "sample points" stored in a memory chip to to a DAC. (change the memory reading speed to change frequency...) Programming/driving of the memory chip could probably be achieved using a PIC microprocessor/LCD display/keypad!
If you wanted to show off, you could possibly store a number of waveforms on a removable chip (an SD card?) and then select which one you wanted to load into the "local" memory!
Some PICS have built in ADCs/ DACs. suspect the resolution/frequency capacities of the built in ones may not be upto what you're looking for. There's some memory on pics, but you'll probably want more as that would allow more points/ a smoother waveform.
