When looking at a capacitor for a project, what is the significants of the voltage of the capacitor?
The project says that I need a 2.2uF Tantalum or 10uF Aluminum Electrolyte capacitor. It does not specify the voltage. Does the voltage of the capacitor matter? Will a "2.2uF 16V Dip Tantalum Cap" work? Here the diagram of the project. http://www.national.com/images/pf/LM3916/00797101.pdf
Voltage rating of a cap is the maximum voltage you can apply to it before damage occurs to the cap.
What supply voltage are you using to drive the IC? It says "12 to 20v". If you are using 20 volts, I'd use a 25 volt cap. If you are using 12 volts, then the 16 volt cap would do.
