ROUTERS TAKE FIBREGLASS POOLS IN NEW DIRECTION
Say goodbye to the old-fashioned bright blue UFO in your garden that was the fibreglass pool. The fibreglass pool of today comes in a wide range of colours, shapes, sizes and textures and they are outpacing their traditional rivals in the popularity stakes.
Propelling this growth has been a huge improvement in the way that these pools are manufactured with modern technology enabling fibreglass pools to match their concrete counterparts in terms of style, looks, longevity and importantly, in performance.
Pool manufacturers are now building moulds using state-of-the-art CNC machining equipment with computer-generated sculpting robotics that enable precision accuracy and greater creativity. For example, a large capacity 5-axis CNC router with CAD/CAM technology can produce moulds for swimming pools with loads of intricate features which add both form and function to what was once a second-class swimming pool.
These days, fibreglass swimming pools have an abundance of features such as entry steps, safety ledges, adjoining spas, bench seats, swimouts and corner steps etc. And it’s all possible through the improved manufacturing technologies and advances in routing equipment.
Fibreglass pools have also been given a style update through the router technology which enables much sharper angles to be formed – thereby bringing the pools closer in line to their concrete counterparts.
Previously, a stalling point for fibreglass pools was the lack of flexibility. Only a very limited number of shapes and sizes were available, with the old fashioned kidney shape a standard feature in many gardens! These days, the CNC router technology enables a rapid turnaround from concept into precise prototypes and finished moulds and has enabled a huge range of shapes and sizes to get to market. From geometric shapes, slimline and roman pools, lap pools, rectangular ones with cutout steps and kiddies pools to the traditional kidney shaped swimming pool, fashionable fibreglass is firmly in the swim!.
