What is causing my alternator power wire to melt?

I drive a 1994 Nissan Sentra. I recently replaced the alternator, and the lower wire that is held on by a nut (the power wire) had basically melted the terminal connection. I bought another terminal connector and put it on, and it melted again (after about 3 weeks). What could be causing this?
Is there a special type of terminal connector I should be using? (I bought the only thing walmart had available) . Could it be a bad ground? Any advice or direction would be appreciated!

check all of your ground wires...you have a backfeed somewhere. this is cause by a bad ground. look at the ground wires coming off of your battery...grab each one and give it a good hard tug...if it's not bad then it won't break...if it is bad it will break into. also look at the insulation around the ground wires.,..if one looks swollen then pull hard on it...then go down the ground wires and look to see if there is a plug in to another ground source. if there is inspect it and see if there is a sign of melting on the plug in itself, if there is then you have found your problem. It seriously sounds like a ground wire problem off of the battery though.
