How do I repair a coaxial tv cable when a crimp severed internal wires terminating reception?

I straightened out the crimps but the internal wires were severed . I'm sure I have the older "59" type cable (20+ yrs old) is it compatible with the RG6? I haven't yet been able to find opposite end of the cable as it runs out of a hole in the exterior wall, up the stairs then disappears. Old cable is long so I bought a stripper tool & RG59 connectors, cut off damaged cable & followed pkg directions but wasn't told I also needed a special "crimper" tool, too! I tried using regular pliers to secure connector to cable, but it didn't stay on - I'm now sticking the center (stripped) bare copper wire directly into the tv to get some audio & very fuzzy pic. No reception at all attaching connector pushed onto end of cable & copper wire coming thru hole. Would the crimping tool solve this - is crimping necessary to somehow complete the whole circuit? I thought it just kept the cable from falling out. Pls help, I'm broke & need my tv back! Thanks!
You have two options - go out and get a cheap crimper or go to Radio Shack and get some "twist on" connectors. They don't need a crimp tool and they work well.
