Is my math right on this for a darlington pair?
ok so i want to draw 9 amps through a toshiba 2sc5331 on the Collector. the gain at nine amps, 5v, is 4.2. so that would mean that the base current would be 9 divided by 4.2= 2.14Amps on the base?
i need a darlington pair for my circuit so in order to get 2.14 amps on the base, ANTOHER transistor (2sc5297) has a gain of around 15 at 2 amps. then would that mean to get two amps on the collector to go to the base of the 2sc5331, i would need 0.13a on the base of 2sc5397? i'm just wanting to make sure i have this correct before i go build my circuit. thanks!
yes. for a darlington, this has remarkedly low gain.
And don't forget you have a VBE for each of about 1.2 – 1.4 volts, so for both, you will need an input voltage of higher than 2.5 volts, about.
the part sacrifices gain for high voltage and high speed.
