Road for new programmer?
I have all the need software and resources to begin writing and learning code in any language Id like to.
My ultimate goal over time is to create an application that reads sensors and turns motors or other actuators to adjust "X" to the desired positions. i want closed loop circuits that correct themselves..
I need to design a graphical user interface for this along with position indicators and gauges on my computer screen. I guess you can do this in any language but what would you suggest.
I have Java JDK6, Note Tab ( a xml editor), Visual Basic2008, Basic Stamp Editor, ooPIC compiler, Different C code compilers and debuggers...
Also do Visual Basic language and Basic(STAMP) language read the same code?
VB and STAMP Basic are different dialects of the same language. Sijnce the hardware is different, many of the constructs in one don't exist in the other.
I'd let the hardware interface dictate the computer and the language. If you're using parallel ports or single pin I/O, doing it on a PC will be a lot more complex that needed - you'll need drivers you can access to read/write the actual physical ports. (Serial ports in a PC are easier.)
BASIC - whether STAMP or Visual - is easy enough to use to write both the GUI and the hardware access, assuming that the hardware can do the job. (If the servo drivers are 2-lead devices [on-off and direction] and the sensors are analog, even a small PIC and some assembly code would do the trick, and you can interface to it from a PC by serial port, having both - an easy physical interface and a nice GUI.)
Java and C are a bit of overkill for this job.
