Using a digital multimeter, how do I check all wiring and shielding on a stratocaster guitar?
Have shielded cavity's and scratch plate, have connected all wires, to pick ups, pots and grounds etc. Would like to know what to do to test all connections with digital multimeter before reassembly. What meter settings for which wires and what readings I should be getting. Cheers.
You would need to set your tester on ohms. For continuity you should get a zero reading, some testers might show 0.06 (or thereabouts) but that's close enough.
On the pots you will get the ohms getting higher or lower, depending on which way you're turning the pot & which legs (wires) you're putting your probes on.
Between your wires & earth your tester should show OL (open line) depending on the make of tester. A Fluke tester would show OL.
Peace.
