The screen on my DELL laptop is very dim?
The display still works, but it is so dim I cannot read it. I believe the model is a Latitude D800. It's barely been used except for the past 3 months. I've tried brightening the screen, but that doesn't change the how dim it is. Also I don't know if I'm actrually raising the contrast, because the contrast symbol is on the same key as the arrows, and is blue, and I don't know exactly what to press for the blue keys to work (shift? fn?)
Anyway I don't believe that is the problem because I was using the computer one hour earlier and it was fine and bright.
Could it be the backlight? How much does that cost to replace?
Thanks B, I tried that and it still doesnt work.
I used to be a Dell technician. You may have a faulty LCD or video card if adjusting brightness and contrast does not help.
Now try connecting an external monitor to the back of your laptop (there should be a video out connector color coded blue). If the display looks ok then contact Dell to get your LCD replace and tell them what you've just tried. If same issue occurs on external one, that is sign of a bad video card or mainboard (if you have onboard video).
Dell systems normally comes with 1-year warranty unless you've extended it. During this period it should be free of charge. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure how much it will cost you to get the part and someone out to do the replacement. Best is to get in touch with them.
