How to confirm that domestic earthing is proper?
I want to check that earthing in my house is proper or not?
I have my DMM
I connected its one probe to one of sockets and otehr to ground point
I kept DMM on voltage mode and switched socket on
But i guess it short circuited and MCB felt down
I want to knwo proper procedure to confrim earthing?
Unfortunately, you can't conduct the appropriate tests. Only a qualified person can.
There are quite a few tests, which will vary according to your country & therefore, your electrical code.
Generally, an Earth Fault Loop Impedance test needs to be carried out to ensure that the main earthing electrode is doing its' job. The "earth resistance" of the internal earth wiring can be checked by using an Ohmmeter.
Earthing is all about allowing "protection devices" (circuit breakers) to operate quickly under earth fault conditions. For this reason, the length & size of the conductors, as well as the types of circuit breakers used, can therefore be different but still operate safely according to the calculated Earth Fault Loop impedance.
Also, it's how your earth cabling & Main Earth Electrode are physically connected. Again, every country has different methods for doing this safely because of differing weather conditions.
For those who don't know, an MCB is a "miniature circuit breaker".
