Fire Hazard or not? Help!! :]?
Well I have one outlet in my bedroom, and alot of stuff that needs to be plugged in. I wanna re-arrange my room so it's not so crowded, but my fiance says that it would be more of a fire hazard. See we have a powerstrip hooked into the outlet, plugged into that power strip is the Tv, PS3, stereo receiver, sometimes a charging cord for his PS3 aswell as a extension cord that goes across the room and has another power strip plugged into it which is what my desktop is plugged into along with his pager an alarm clock and my phone charger. To move the room around the way i would like it, we would have to plug the Tv, PS3, cable box, and stereo receiver into extension cords, and the extension cords into the power strip... Let me know what you think, Your help would be greatly appreciated.
I do electrical work,( no I am not an electrician).Sounds like you have more of a trip hazard than a fire hazard. Most outlets are set to handle 15 to 20 amps. None of the stuff you have will draw anything close to that. the problem lies with the extentions cords. That is where the main heatup will occur. Keep them as short as possible, and make sure they're in perfect condition. And watch your step.
