The smell of gas (VERY STRONG) outside of my house?
Should I be worried? The odor of gas is so strong outside all around my house that it can cause you to be sick. We have called the gas company to see if there is a leak. They checked and couldn't find one. However, the guy said it was NOT normal. It almost made him sick and burnt his nose, eyes and throat.
We have called several surrounding heating and air companies. Each one stated it sounded like the heating exchange.
When we contacted the landlord and told them our concern they said nothing was wrong. We insisted that it be looked at. He came out, and again stated nothing was wrong and for us to buy a carbon monxide detector.
We can't work in our yard, wash the car, or be outside due to the smell of gas.
We have a furnance with a gas pack.
Our bill is steadily going up. last month 180.00. This month 400.00.
This is a 1200 sq ft house.
Call the fire department. They will INSIST that the gas company come out and find the leak - there's no excuse for the gas company to leave without resolving the problem or evacuating the area. This could be a VERY SERIOUS condition - an entire neighborhood was destroyed and several people were killed by fire a few months ago in California due to a leaking pipeline.
A carbon monoxide detector is NOT what you need for determining if this is safe or not; your landlord is an idiot.
