how do you zero in a Geiger counter?
when i put it on the zero mark and zero it in the needle moves when i switch it to the x100,x10,x1,x0.1 position. also how do you know when it detects something?
Zeroing it means you're adjusting for the background radiation. If you increase the sensitivity, you're going to pick up more background radiation.
Zero it to x1 and then find a radioactive source to test it.
Granite counter tops. luminous dials on watches and low sodium salt contain radioactivity.
If you don't get a reading, reset the sensitivity, zero it at that sensitivity point and then try again.
