Gfci breaker for hot tub keeps keeps tripping?
I installed a gfci breaker box for a hot tub. When I make the electrical connections to the hot tub it trips the breaker. When I disconnect the wires from the hot tub and reset the breaker it doesn't trip the breaker. I also checked the voltage with a meter when the wires were disconnected from the hot tub and it is correct. Any ideas what is causing this problem?
You're shorting out somewhere within the wiring of the tub. Seems that you have it isolated to the tub. Make sure that you don't have any of the hot legs switched up in the wiring and all terminals are corresponding with the wires. What about voltage...did you put a 110v GFI breaker onto a 220v unit or vice versa? Check that the breaker is not undersized. If you have an inline heater you're most likely on a 220v..if it's just a jet pump it's probably a 110v unit. Try another breaker..I don't know how many times I've put a BRAND NEW breaker in, and it's bad from the start. Good luck.
