How can high voltage damage an EFI computer like when welding on car frame?
I've also seen a device that police can use to kill the EFI computer in a car they're chasing by sending a high voltage through wires that touch underneath the car (on the body somewhere).
How do the electrons get to the computer when they just go between the terminals of the welder or high-voltage source?
Welding doesn't use high voltage, only about 19 to 30 volts. rather, it uses very high CURRENT, 200-400 amps.
EFI computers are usually quite well shielded. The spark plugs and spark coil DO produce very high voltage, and also produce appreciable amounts of EM interference.
I've welded on exhaust systems before, and never had any issues. A car body acts as a very effective "Faraday cage."
