Installing a refridgerator ice maker line to water line? A few questions.... Plumbers?
I've never done this before, but it sounds relatively simple...
1. Should I tap the line directly from the sink, drill down into the basement and back up through to the fridge (10 feet away)?
or
2. Should I find the water line (not sure how) in the basement, remove the insulation, and tap into that without drilling two holes into the kitchen floor and run that to the fridge?
3. Also I plan to install the valve/ tubing now and buy the fridge later. Does the self piercing valve have an on/ off switch or do I need to IMMEDIATELY connect it to the fridge?

Either 1 or 2 will work. But, I would think that 1 is easier, if you don't know where the water pipe in the basement is.
Regarding 3, the self-piercing valve shuts the water off. But, I would recommend you also install a cut-off valve at the fridge itself.
