problem with start up...?
dear all..please help me...
i have a 55 kilowatt of 3 phase induction motor..the problem is whenever during starting..it always trip..this lead me to assume an insulation failure..but with megger tester and multimeter, i've found no problem with phase to ground insulation...plus no short also..could it probably a fault within auto-transfomers?...since my motor is 6 poles squirrel cage induction motor with auto transfomers starting??...please help me in my troubleshooting...
What is your tripping mechanism? You should have a logic diagram on your starting circuit that tells you what your motor protections are and your process protections. You need to then use a multimeter to monitor the circuit and see what device is tripping your motor. If your motor is connected to a pump, for example, you many have a pressure trip or an interlock with another circuit. And has the motor ever started successfully? If it has, then your transformers may not be the most likely problem. Another thing that will cause you to trip on starting are your thermal overloads in your starting contactor. If they are undersized, they could be taking you out on starting. Your instantaneous magnetic trips can do the same thing. If they are causing it, then you will need to look at the calculations that sized them and make sure they have the right inputs from your motor, including the locked rotor amps. Due to inrush, your starting currents are the greatest the motor will see and can be 2 to 3 times the normal operating current.
