I have a high pressure sodium light fixture hooked to an Intermatic T101 timer. . .?
The timer has pooped out on me after a mere 25 years and instead of replace it, I wonder if there is some way I can hook a photo cell up to it?
You need to make sure that the photocell is rated to take the starting surge and operating load from the HPS fixture. If it can, you are home-free. But:
Keep in mind that with a photocell, dark clouds, especially at sunrise and sunset may cause multiple-strike conditions that will greatly reduce the life of the lamp. A photocell will cycle multiple times in a few moments based on ambient light. A timer operate per its programming.
