What is the cost of a RTDS for power system research?

I am trying to procure a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) for my power system lab. Does anyone know how much RTDS cost (hardware and software) in total. I need to have an estimate to apply for the funding. Any one from the power industry - if you have any comments - I'll appreciate it.

You should contact RTDS Technologies, at rtds.com, for a budgetary quotation.

Fully functional RTDS systems are in the range of $250k US, but you may be able to configure a system that meets your needs for significantly less.

I would start with $50k and expect to go up - a lot - from there.

If you have more time & talent than funds (e.g. academic environment), you can probably get a lot of mileage out of $20k - $50k, mostly in hardware.

One good friend of mine (now at SEL) did his dissertation work in the early 90's on closed-loop EMTP simulation for relay testing, with a lot less dollars. Biggest cost was the power amplifiers to drive the current inputs on the relays being tested.
