What was this lab equipment meant for?
I bought this on a flea market

Although I "only" use old electronic lab equipment as deco to contrast with the
otherwise hi-tech stuff, I still want to know what it is good for.
This one ... I'm not sure. I "reverse-engineered" a circuit diagram

Yes, it is a bridge of some sort, but for what purpose?
Any ideas?
Note: Leeds & Northrup Co. seem to have gone belly-up in 2000
No variable capacitor inside (see circuit diagram).
I also thought that "L" has something to do with a L-bridge. But "L" and "H" could as well mean High and low....
Corrected answer:
It is a slide-wire potentiometer designed for student use. It is used with an external standard cell and an external galvanometer to make precision voltage measurements. In addition, its slide wire and fifteen stepwise resistors could be used as two arms of a Wheatstone bridge. It dates to about 1940.
