Does solubility of alcohols in hexane decrease as number of carbon atoms increases? ?
Is propanol more soluble than ethanol? butanol? I think dielectric constant increases, which means polarity increases, right? If so, why is this? Hexane is nonpolar, so I think solubility would decrease as the carbon chains get longer. Any info/explanation appreciated.
remember that like dissolves like.
its also easier to dissolve a small molecule than a large one so ethanol>propanol>butanol (more soluble-->less soluble)
