Electrical Connectors: Types of Different Connector Devices and Materials
In order to join two or even more electrical circuits together, electrical connectors are often used. The electric connectors are often utilized to forming some temporary electric connections. And in case, they can form some permanent ones.
Varieties of electric connectors available such as a Plug or a Socket Connector, Terminal Blocks, Device Connectors, crimp-on Terminal Connectors, and Component Connectors. The Socket Connectors and Plugs are designed as a “female” socket and a “male” plug.
You can use the male connectors to plug into the outlets, jacks and receptacles. The female connectors usually contain the sockets in order to receive all the other devices. The so called “gender changers” are capable of converting male connectors into female connectors, and vice versa. For example, you can remind the audio and video electrical connectors, the Power Connectors and the Computer Connectors.
The Terminal Blocks are responsible for connecting all the individual electrical wires. These parts are known as the “terminal boards” or the “strips”. These are the most flexible types of electrical connectors you can have today, but they are having some quite real disadvantages.
You can understand the disadvantages easily. It is very difficult to unite the wires compared to plugging the cables. The second thing, the terminals are usually not in the best manner protected from the contact with the people or with the foreign conducting substances.
In spite of all the individual screw terminals, the so called the “quick-disconnect terminals” or “fast-on” are the most used as the component and the device connectors. The crimp - on terminals are known as lugs.
Use computers as electrical connectors. To be compatible for the batteries, the ribbon cables, and the coaxial cables, they are very helpful.
Electrical connectors are available in so many shapes and sizes. These can differ from the 24 to the usual 16 contact connectors. The water-resistant electric connectors are available. They are great for the zones with a big moisture level.
The official prices of the electrical materials can vary, depending generally upon the overall performance, and also upon durability. With a technology that is developing at a fast rate, newer and even better electrical connectors can bring a big evolution in the electrical domain.
