Security ties on main fuse and elec. meter?
I've just had a new consumer unit fitted by an aquaintance who is an electrician, whilst fitting he had to extend the feed cables from the meter which involved cutting off the lead pressed security ties, but he said he can't put new ties on because they shouldn't be removed in the first place and the local electric supplier should be the one to replace them.
What do I do now ?, I don't want to get slapped wrists from the electricity board but I don't want to cause any trouble for the electrician.
How can I legally get these ties re-done ?
Just ask your DNO for the meter to be re-sealed.
It's no big deal. So long as they don't think that you are trying to fiddle the meter such as unreasonably low readings on usage, they they will be fine..
If you look at one of your bills there should be a MPAN shown - a box with 6 cells and a large 'S" to the left side. The box closest to the 'S' on the bottom row shows an encoded number - that is your Distributor. The number is as follows -
