Why is it when i use a voltmeter to test any 12V DC adapters, It reads 16-19 volts?
I have tried testing 5 different adapters and used 3 different testers on them and they all read at least 3 volts higher than the adapter says on the label.
The story:
I just fried something on a circuit board, and tested my DC adapter and saw how high it was, so I searched my house to find one that read 12V... and none of them were even close to 12V except a car battery that I also tested to assure my volt meters were working properly.
The output voltage is going to read higher because the DC converter is not loaded. Once the device you are powering in plugged in and turned on the voltage will drop to about 12 or 13 volts.
