How long does it take to transfer videos from a mini cassette (of a camcorder) to a PC using Firewire?
Say you wanted to transfer the whole recordings in the cassette to your computer. If done via FireWire how long should it take approx on Windows Vista?
Geoff the skier is correct... when importing Standard Definition DV. Realtime... so 1 hour of DV = 1 hour of import time.
You did not specify which camcorder, so you do need to know that high definition (HDV) import will take, at best, real-time if you have a REALLY REALLY FAST CPU - most likely it will take longer than that - but since it is CPU speed dependent, and we don't know what computer you are using, it is difficult to say how long one hour of HDV would take *your* computer to import. If your computer is a year old, it could take 2 or more hours to import one hour of HDV.
Also... be advised that 1 hour of imported DV will use about 14 gig of computer hard drive space and 1 hour of imported HDV will use about 44 gig of computer hard drive space.
