What is "waphi.baidu.com"?
While googling a non-tech-savvy friend's name on the web I came across a few legitimate hits and also more than a few hits with a lot of strange characters in them. The characters were small rectangles with 4 numbers or letters in them arranged in a square. I assume these are octal code representations. However, mixed in with each of them was this URL: "http://waphi.baidu.com". I tried visiting this URL but I couldn't access it. I do have some email from this person on my PC. What exactly is this URL and what purpose does it serve?
Baidu is a big Chinese site, it is legitimate. So those strange characters were probably Chinese, and they were not being displayed correctly because the computer isn't set up to recognize Chinese.
