The Supply Of Light Guide Plate Can Not Meet The Demand
The LED television industry is growing fast nowadays, especially the EDGE type LED television. Therefore, the supply of light guide plate and the related material can not meet the demand in the first half of this year. The MMA and PMMA are the main material to make the light guide plate. Their price is turning high with the problem of demand of supply. What is more, most of the diffusion plate production line are converting to the light guide plate production line, thus the expansion of capacity is continually implementing. The competition between the different plate manufacturers will become fiercer.
It is predicated that the shipment of the LED television will reach 78 million sets in the year of 2011. The demand of the EDGE type LED television is also increasing continually. The low yield of light guide plate will bring negative effects to the LED television market. Besides, the supply of the MMA is short; therefore, the plate manufacturers are trying to taking the researches about the panel. Thin mould, high brightness and new material are the directions of research.
First is the thin mould, making the panel thin can solve the shortage problem of its material, and contributes to make the television thin. The leading thickness is 3mm to 3.5mm in the current market. In order to reduce the thickness to 2mm, manufacturers should solve the heat-resisting problem at first. Therefore, to make the plate thin is not very simple; second is the high brightness. In order to make their products different from others, the manufacturers try to improve the brightness of the panel. Lenticular pattern can be added in the light guide plate to implement the high brightness; last is the new material. The traditional process uses the LGP panel, which has risks to make the cost high; therefore, many manufacturers try to develop the simple process to produce the plate. The related integrated circuit is SOP8.
