6 Band EQ settins on a Crate 100w Bass Amp?
I just bought a used Crate Bass amp with a 6 band "slider" EQ on it. I'm having trouble getting the sound I'm looking for out of this amp.It either sounds muffled or hollow and dead, from one extreme to another. Can anyone give me some pointers on setting the EQ so I can get myself started? It's got a shape knob with on/off switch and then a 6 band slider that goes 50hz 100hz 225hz 625hz 1.6k 4k 8k and 16k sliders. theres also a 0/-15 db switch. This thing is beastly loud and can shake my whole house, If i can get the tone straightened out I think it'll make a nice practice amp. All help is appreciated!
I guess I should have mentioned, our band plays emo/hardcore music so thats kind of the sound I'm going for.
umm, i personally hate crates just because mine was so crappy
im guessing the shape knob is like a presence so i'd turn that on and just mess around with it a bit, then for the 50-16k for bass try to keep the lower freqs down a touch otherwise itll sound like a big fart, and also keep the highs up a bit based on how the amp is
i can't really say for sure because it kinda depends on you're bass, some basses just have eternally crappy sound (im a guitar player also so im not really an expert on this, but i do own a 2 basses), and some amps just dont have the right tones in them either so i'm just saying this from a normal perspective
keep everything closer to the mid range rather than all the way up/down and test each one one by one, also dont use distortion if you do.., and if you really can't get any good sound, i'd say new bass/amp or buy a mxr equalizer
