What is the ideal reading of the megavar meter for 110MW power station?
The reading of megavar meter is very important for the controlling and maintenance of every power station.
Ideally, power supply to a system should have a lagging power factor of 0.95 only. At unity or leading power factor, the receiving end voltage in an industrial plant increases to an undesirable high voltage during power failures.Hence,calculating mvar from a 110MW power station,
MVa=Mw/P.F.
MVA = 110/0.95=116
MVAR={square root of 116(116) - 110(110)}
= {square root of 13456-12100}
=square root of1356
= 36.82 MVAR.
