555 timer or other ??? based design to drive a ignition coil.?
i would like a hyperlink to your fav. also the pcb software i've found to convert schematics to pcb design either suck or are beyond my comperhension, any help. and.... how bout a kick ass sim software to test my prototypes? thanks yall
If you're set on using a 555 then try this schematic:

(consider a reverse biased diode across the 3055 to keep it safe from spikes)
An even simpler solution is to use a CD4047 CMOS logic chip instead. All you need is a single resistor and capacitor to set the frequency, and it'll drive a beefy output transistor or mosfet to run your coil no worries!
I would avoid designing a PCB unless you are going to be selling them. Just build it on vero boards.
And same goes for simulation.. If you just wanna have fun and watch sparks fly then you shouldn't need a sim. It's not rocket science.
