Ext receptacle not right.?
The wall outlet worked before but wouldn't grip when a plug was inserted. I installed a new one w/o turning off power. Long story. Anyway, the bL wire lightly touched and sparked a bit before I pulled it away. The new receptacle works but the entire run dwnstrs is w/o power. Fuse is intact.The tester says I have a an open neutral which is incorrect. What do I need to do to get a pos neutral? The gr,wh and BL wires have been reversed w/ no difference.
Trip the breaker.
Start at the non-working outlet closest to the panel.
Do a continuity test btwn the neutral and the ground. The tester should "beep" if there is continuity meaning both the neutral and ground are connected/working. If you test one that does not "beep" - then there is an open btwn that one and the last one you tested.
