Will too much gain kill a subwoofer?
I have a 1000 watt RMS Power Bass amp, and I HAD a 1400 Watt RMS Power Acoustik MOFO 122x.
My problem was that it did not provide loud bass unless the gain and bass boost were up almost all the way. An hour after using that set up my subwoofer was blown. I checked all my wires with a digital multimeter and my connections are all good.
So my main question is, can you blow a subwoofer if the amp's gain is up all the way, even if the subwoofer is still "underpowered"? And why?
1. power accoustik over rates their equipment badly. if they said it would take 1400 rms i wouldn't put more than 700 rms on it.
2.yes you can kill a subwoofer with too much gain and bass boost. why? the short answer is distortion.
