Military Scope Rings By Leupold
Leupold are the premier US scope and accessory manufacturer. Leupold'a mounting systems are equally well regarded and are the standard others are judged by. They give you the choice of mounting semi-permanently or utlizing a rugged and reliable quick release system.
The Leupold PRW rings are their standard duty military specification rings intended for semi-permanent attachment of small to medium scopes. There are four 8-40 Torx screws per ring placed beyond half way around the scope. This prevents the scope from rotating as you tighten the clamping screws. Larger Torx
screws clamp the mount to the rail or bases and a rectanglular cross bar prevents any movement fore and aft under recoil. The width of the clamping rings ensure the scope will not move in them if correctly torqued. The PRW rings are CNC machined from billet of steel for the greatest strength and precision, then given a matte black powder coating. The 1" medium height version is also available in gloss black.
The Leupold QRW rings are the quick detach versions of the PRWs. A quick release lever replaces each pair of Torx screws. These enable you to remove and re-attach the scope with zero repeating very closely. The scope can be stored seperately and completely avoids the danger from cleaning fluids getting on the lenses. For aesthetics it is easy to adjust the levers so they both sit at the same angle once tightened.
Military snipers use large, heavy scopes and hard recoiling rifles of up to 0.50 BMG chambering. The mission often only calls for one shot to be taken so it is vital that that shot counts. The Leupold Mark 4 rings were created without compromise to meet these requirements. CNC machined from 11L17 steel bar stock for ultimate strength, the massively engineered rings clamp down with four Torx screws using the wrench supplied. The Mark 4 rings clamp to the rail using massive hex nuts that are easily torqued to the required settings. With the current emphasis on weight reduction due to dismounted operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere, Leupold came up with an aluminum version of the Mark 4 rings. Leupold chose 7075 T-651 aluminum which has twice the strength of the 6000 series used by other manufacturers.
