For too long, I used a Nikon FG, that's a mid-level camera. Took great pictures should you knew what you have been doing, but of course it turned out a film camera. Then came unwanted cameras. For the last a decade's, I was basically applying point and shoot cameras , camcorders, which were great to get general landscapes. No longer being enthusiastic about standing in darkrooms inhaling and exhaling photo processing chemicals, I opted for an electronic SLR where I may do any further processing via my pc. As a birthday reward to myself, I got the Nikon D3100 Digital SLR. Took it out the primary few days and achieved not as much as thrilling results; my point & shoots set it up better pictures. So I took a glance at the manual which served only marginally. I do not think it was orginally written in English and will have lost some while in the translation.

Common sense laughed and said that Nikon couldn't have put out a $500+ camera in which only takes so-so snap shots. I looked on Amazon along with found 3 books written specifically this camera, and i aquired one. Nikon D3100 digital camera Field Guide. Going over just the 1st few chapters of this book made a big difference. I'm now having incredible images. My problem was that will photography had progressed immensely while we were playing around with your point & shoots. This camera takes selling point of these new advances, plus it feels like it's made a few advances of unique. It's a very complex camera, but it's furthermore initially complicated, and the good news is learning curve. The book explains the camera in greater detail using plain English, and consequently I'm learning a lot concerning the camera and about portrait digital photography in general, even though I thought I knew a lot.

I am only now beginning to understand this camera. It provides you with an incredible amount involving control, from very understated to blatantly obvious. The display on the back of the video camera provides technical information, simple to use menus, and allows you to be able to zoom in on the images to assure they are in focus also to check on exposure regarding details or shadows. The 18-55mm lens within the kit is great except how the maximum aperature opening is actually 3. 5 (I was familiar with 1. 8 on the old Nikon). The auto focusing offers you many options, and when used correctly, the focusing is perfect and distinct. As with all autofocus contact lenses, the manual focusing is touchy and nope like the old handbook lenses, however, I've really not had much should focus manually, so it's actually not much of an concern.

Although it can be used as such, it's not a place & shoot camera, and thus it is somewhat ungainly. And unlike my aged FG, it's mostly naff. I think that's living nowdays; plastic is california king. The neckstrap is type of cheesy. The camera kit comes with a battery (I might get yourself a second in case, but I'm surprised at how far it does last), as well as a plug-in charger. Included in the field is software for manipulating your pictures using the pc. I haven't installed this yet because I employ Adobe Photoshop Elements on the lookout for (Win/Mac), although at some place I may try it only fun. There is also another disk that is certainly an extended version belonging to the printed manual; basically it is afflicted with the same problem since the printed one. What doesn't feature the camera is this USB cable, which i do think stinks. Fortunately I had one from a normal Palm Pilot that proved helpful. The camera, by how, does include 2 ferrite cores. thought about to research what these were; they wrap around near one end in the USB cable to keep interference when uploading your current pictures. Considering using it because without it WE kept getting uploading errors.

I didn't plan with writing this much, but really there may be much to say about this Nikon D3100. Bottom line is the fact I really like that.
