Are any of new electric hybrids driven by electric motors in the wheels?
If so are they stepper or servo driven?

Is Chev volt motors DC ?
As far as I know no hub motors. And for a reason too - cars need heavy duty motors built to last and placing big masses into wheels is very bad for handling. Big unsprung mass means that stiffer springs and shocks are needed to dampen the wheel upward motion and to get the weight of the wheel back to the road. Stiffer springs also mean that more forces get transmitted into the chassis - to keep same handling you get much harsher and less comfy ride.
Isn't servo just a motor that signals back its orientation? Typically servos are used as actuators and have limited range (can't spin forever in one direction). Doesn't sound like a good motor - but I might be wrong.
