How to control four stepper motors using parallel port?
What I would do involves some programming on the PC side and optional use of programming or logic on HW side. You might be able to drive the motors with a parallel port alone...
The PC side would require the parallel port to send out certain code, simple 4bit gray code in my example, 0000 for off, 0001 for motor 1 on, 0010 for motor 1 off...basically create a state machine/truth table etc. for controlling the motors. Then write a simple program to have the PC parallel port to give the output you want!
Then create the logic on the HW side to interpret these PC codes using basic gates, PLD's, etc. to drive motors.
Whatever you do, direct parallel port or HW, make sure it can actually drive the motors. (Enough current and potential w/out burning something up.)
