motherboard or power supply ?
I have an old computer (6 years) that has been giving me BSOD lately.
3 weeks ago, BSODs start to appear, I installed the OS in a brand new HD and still BSOD. So I decided to go for the memory module and pulled out one stick (1GB), and it worked.
BUT, yesterday it started giving me BSOD constantly, same "paging to non page" message. I initially thought it might be a temperature problem, so I turned it off and left it for a couple of hours. Half an hour ago, the motherboard start to give me beeps (1 long beep 3 short beeps), this time, I swapped the memory stick, first slot to third slot. And it works again.
My question, is my motherboard failing or is it the power supply ? or is there anyway to test which one is ?
PS: I have tried running memtest86, gave me a few errors, but if I swap the memory stick around it passes all test.
I believe your problem is your RAM sticks. You already pointed out errors when running Memtest86+ on one stick and not the other. I would suggest you run "SpeedFan" to monitor your temperature. As for Hard drive errors I would suggest you run "CHKDSK" from the command prompt running windows or from the repair console option running the OS install disk.
How to run CHKDSK from within windows on C:
click start
click run
type "cmd" and hit enter
In command prompt black box type:
"chkdsk /r c:" and hit enter
follow prompts and reboot to get the scan to run and complete.
That should give you a very basic idea of the health of your hard drive. If bad sectors exist anyway. For a more in depth scan utility I suggest "Spinrite". Otherwise I would find free software to monitor your SMART, google it, data posting from your hard drive.

If you suspect your motherboard you might want to look at the motherboard for damaged or leaking capacitor caps. This could be causing motherboard instability.

If you can't come to any conclusion then I suggest either seeking professional help or replacing the computer motherboard, ram, and cpu. It would be wise to take advantage of dual or quad core and the speed of SATA and PCI-E bus transfer speeds. I sure as heck would like to upgrade if I had more $, time, and a good excuse.
