How to limit the power supply 12 VDC 5.8A to 5VDC 0.5A?
If the 5VDC voltage regulator is used, can it limit the current to low?
The 12VDC 5.8A voltage supply will cause the 5VDC voltage regulator heat and burn? If yes, how to solve it?
The 9VDC 5.8A voltage supply will cause problem to my normal 9VDC hobby kits circuit?
3 terminal voltage regulators like the LM7805 have built in current limiting, as well as thermal limiting. If they get too hot, they will shut down. If you want 5 v at 0.5 amps, that is a power dissipation of 7x0.5 = 3.5 watts. It needs a small to medium heat sink.
I'm confused, you have 3 different supplies listed. I understand you are dropping the 12 volt supply down with a 5v regulator. Where does the 9 volts supply fit into this?
