Why does my laptop crash when switching power sources?

Every time I switch from being plugged in to stand alone battery or vis-versa I try and come back from standby and I get the blue screen of death and the laptop crashes. Why only when I switch power sources? HELP!?!?! Thanks!!!!!
Its on an HP Omnibook Xe2 running Windows 2000

hardware problems causing voltage fluctuations in ur motherboard/processor/ram .... take it to a service centre, they will check and correct the internal power connections and voltages...
