What happens if you disconnect temperature sensor line?
I switched my 1989 Chevy truck over to an aftermarket temperature gauge because the original one was indicating over heat and wide temperature swings. The aftermarket shows a constant 190 degrees. What will it affect if I leave the sensor line disconnected? The truck seems to run fine except bogging down under hard acceleration which I believe is a bad pressure regulator.
This is not the sensor with two wires it is the single wire to the gauge. I have been running it this way for about six months.
Assuming you did disconnect the wire from the sending unit for the gauge, nothing. That would be the single wire.
*if* you disconnected the temperature SENSOR, with two wires, you will affect mileage and driveability.
Edit: Nothing will happen with that wire connected. It ran the gauge, and only the gauge. All ECM compensation based on engine temp is done through the temp sensor.
