Troy Accessories For AR15 Rifles
No other weapon has lent itself to customization like the AR15. A whole industry has grown up around replacing literally every component of this venerable rifle. Troy Industries are one of the dominant companies in this field. Troy are one of the largest OEM suppliers to the AR15 rifle industry.
One of the things Troy are best known for is their range of back up iron sights, primarily for the AR, but commonly used on other rifles - especially those with full length Picatinny Rails. Machined from aluminium and secured with stainless steel fixings, Troy sights are designed to withstand use in harsh environments. The entire range of Troy Battle Sights is available in a Type III black or matte earth anodized finish. Large and small apertures are provided on a conventional, A1 style L shaped flip up element. The large aperture is a battle sight set to 300 meters and the small aperture caters for longer engagements at 500 meters. The sights user the A1 adjustment system. The rear uses a coin or a bullet tip and the front the GI adjuster tool or Troy's own variant thereof. Half Minute of Angle clicks are used.
For those who want an instant transition between optical and iron sights, Troy make non folding fore and rear sight units. Like the rest of the range the front sight is available with either M16 style wings or an HK/AK style open topped ring that is itself very easy to center on a target for rapid engagement. They then move up to a flip system which folds down to only .460" high and is available in a standard height and low height version - the latter for ARs with gas piston systems which have higher receiver rails. Gas block versions of the front sights are also available. Troy folding BUIS are very sleek when folded, lacking levers or other protrusions and lock in either up or down position with two very robust spring detent balls. The rearsights are supplied with either a conventional round aperture or 'Di-optic' Aperture (DOA) which has a diamond shaped aperture with a white line extending from each point for long range shooting and a broken topped aperture with a single white crossbar for short range. This makes for more rapid and precise shooting. Both standard and DOA rearsights and all the folding foresights can be supplied with tritium dots to provide a night shooting solution independent of batteries or electronics.
Troy avoided the use of a cantilever mount by designing their free floating quad rail to extend directly forward from the flat top AR15's receiver rail. Whilst non free floating versions are available and can be mounted in seconds, the free floating versions clamp around the barrel nut, making the joint even stronger and enhancing accuracy. The Troy AR quad rail is available in various lengths for different length gas systems. Some of these quad rails need a low profile gas block whilst others have an opening to take the factory front sight. Fitting is made easy by two piece design and a very solid four bolt clamping arrangement. The units and their covers are available in either black or earth to match other troy accessories and typical AR15 coloration. Replacement of accessories is facilitatied by alphanumerically coded slots and large holes facilitate the dispersion of heat and reduce the weight of the units.
Vertical front grips and now once again in vogue with the world's militaries. They allow much greater control than horizontal fore-ends, particularly in dynamic situations. The Troy Combat Grip is a very rugged and versatile unit. It secures solidly to the rail with a full length stainless steel locking bar and fore and aft cross slot bars. It can be configured in full length and 'stubby' configurations and provides an o-ring slealed storage compartment for batteries etc. Again it is available in flat black or matte earth. A knurled surface provides for good grip in the wet.
