i recently bought a kill a watt meter to measure kwts,where can i find info about appliance kwts usage?
Each appliance should have a label on it stating the actual Kw that appliance will use. An amp meter will give you a snapshot of the amperage or current draw of the wire feeding the appliance. Remember, this snapshot is for the time you are watching it and does not count for the actual Kw usage. Only a snapshot in time. How long will you be running this appliance? The formula below tells how we calculate wattage.
amperage X voltage = watts 1000 watts = 1Kwatt or Kw
Your pay for the total Kw used during a period of time. The snap shot of an amp meter will not tell you how much you used in a day or week. That can be done by a recording watt meter. This is what the power company uses to add up all the power you use. They charge by the # of kw per hour you use. This combination is call a Kilowatt Hour or Kwhr and will cost from 8 -18 cents per Kwhr.
The 100 watt light bulb is .10 Kw. Ten 100 bulbs would be 1 Kw. If you operate 10 ea 100 watt bulbs for 1 hr then you would pay for 1 Kwhr.
Again, each appliance must have a tag (required) to list the energy usage.
