Plugmold Installation Guide
Many people think that plugmold installation is hard. Most folks have a hard time in the wiring plan or just connecting the metal chains to make one multi-outlet assembly. However, it's pretty straightforward when you get to install or assemble one. The real solution lies in the first steps and following it through with the right ones so you get to the last chain properly.
This plugmold installation guide expects you to know basic wiring techniques, or have some handyman skills like cutting, splicing, and stripping wires. If you think you are not properly initiated towards electricity, you can call an electrician to do theplugmold installation for you or purchase ready to use plugmold set.
You can purchase plugmold strips on every hardware store or go to Wiremold's website where there are different kinds ofplugmold installation guides and parts. You need Phillips head screwdriver, a tape measure, and self-fed plugmold strips that are also used in raceway outlets.
Once you have the plugmold strips, disassemble every part including the chained outlets from its metal casing.
Trace where your electrical line is attached. From where it is connected, you may need to splice the wires long enough to connect it to the plugmold installation.
On the back of every plastic box, there are small channels that provide a way for the wires to pass with enough space for the front and back cover to snap back together. Notice that you have three wires from your mains switch and only two channels on each side of the outlet box. Let the ‘hot' and ‘neutral' wires pass through the other side and the ground wire through the other side.
Splice the wire by cutting ½ inch of insulation from each end or used W30 connector as a guide to know how much insulation you need to cut. Two W30 must come from the plugmold you are using. Make sure that you can insert the wires into the W30 connector and that all the wires are lined with the channel to make one parallel line.
Using pliers, bend the wires to put them in position along the channel. If the wires bounce back, use blue painters tape to keep the wires in place. The ground wire must be of different color from the hot and neutral wire and needs to be bent tightly in place. Wire nuts can be placed to cover the ends of the wire. Just make sure that the wire nuts are tightly in place.
Carefully place the outlet with the wire runs in the plugmold, keeping every wire in place. Use painters tape for extra measure.
It would be better if the plugmold's bracket is already in place so you only need to screw in or drill the screws in place. Fitting the end fittings over the bottom lip of the plugmold requires some force so you need to put some pressure as you push the top in. Then insert the wires from the mains supply to the hole on your plugmold installation.
