Window Curtains : An Art Variant With A Lot Of Benefits
There is nothing so thrilling than having to curtain out ones new home. The decision however on what type of window curtains you will have is a bit daunting. The manufacturers will tell you that vertical slats are more economical and gives you an advantage of seeing out without being seen, and the venetian people will tell you that theirs offer better protection to your furniture.
Remember what our window coverage was in the old days? Drapes that weighed a tonne, with meters of material hanging from heavy rod covers. It was nice in it's time, but today the saying of "less is more" is very apt. The less material you use on your windows, the more money you save.
So what do you do if you are faced with a home with large windows? Firstly, you need to solve three problems like; privacy, safety and the strength of light that comes into a window during the day. Let's look at these factors on their own.
Privacy can be solved by keeping a curtain drawn at all times. Or, you could have a look at when it is most likely that someone can see in, and draw the curtains accordingly. But, with a busy life style one forgets to close an exposed window, so it stays open.
Having a window that exposes a room all day would not be wise for safety reasons as well. You could consider installing a shutter type unit onto the window and have the small slats tilted at a particular angle. This way you can see out, be no one can see in. Another option is to have a one way film glued onto the actual glass, which will give you the same effect.
A light material can then be used to drape on either side. If you don't fancy having wood on your windows, then why not stick a layer of film onto the glass itself. You can get the same effect without having to drill holes.
To stop sunlight from streaming in, you need not buy expensive material ' your window curtains just have to be lined with a heavy backing. Your problems will be solved immediately by following few easy steps.
